RED ROCK CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES
JULY 16, 2007
Meeting was called to order at 7:20pm
Vice President: Berny gave a reminder of the importance of publicity for our chapter, and the submission of photos of our projects and activities to local newspapers. Berny and Lisa volunteered to submit any photos to the newspapers.
Treasurer: Beginning balance: $5027.67. Ending balance: $4237.54. 50/50: $392.00
Habitat: A cutting/mowing project is set for September 8, 2007, at the South Mountain fields, Sorber Mountain, and Cider Run, with a tentative start time of 8:00am. When observed on June 21, Dale reported that of the 50 large apple trees that were planted, all but approximately 9 took. Dale will have more information about other upcoming projects at next month’s meeting.
President: Dale was contacted by Ray Smith regarding JAKES event and 168 unused JAKES memberships possibly not sent in yet. Dale discussed a new proposal, House Bill 1676, which involves the Wildlife Commissions tapping the state tax revenue for a very small percentage of sales tax which would generate $10 million for the game commission and $5 million for the fish commission. The controversy is the possibility of the general populace dictating what is done on our gamelands. Jay Delaney called Dale June 26 and said we could count on his vote for voluntary use of orange during turkey hunting season. Currently the commissioners are 4-for and 3-against this proposal, and the vote will take place in January. Dale discussed 1800 acres of property near State College, of which approximately 900 acres may be lost to the Game Commission due to Penn State University “inadvertently” spreading sewage on it. A letter was received from Larry Holjencin regarding his resignation from his position as senior regional director. There were also multple resignations/terminations of the regional directors from Wheelin’ Sportsmen. Damien will check further into the Sarah Dymond School project, with more information becoming available in August and September after school starts. There will possibly be a three year partnership with the school. Damien is updating our Red Rock Chapter web site. Ideas were discussed about what to put in the “About Us” section, such as officers, committees, etc. Our banquet on February 9, 2008 will have pricing of $55/$80 for tickets. Dale recommended contacting Ray Smith soon for tickets so we can have them early.
JAKES: No report
