NWTF RED ROCK CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 19, 2009
Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm
Vice President: The remaining 120 banquet letters have been mailed.
Treasurer: Beginning balance: $4062.66. Ending balance: $5423.16. 50/50: $800.00. Damien noted a check for $95.40 will be needed for chapter web site fees.
Habitat: The Sugar Run tree cutting project will be January 24, beginning at 8am. The block cut with the DCNR is February 28, with interested participants meeting at 8am. The apple tree pruning project is still set for March 28, with a potential change in date. The Beth Run project is scheduled for June 13, 2009. The new chaps and helmets have been obtained.
JAKES: We received one scholarship application, and the applicant is qualified. The Superfund money for the scholarship has been requested. Moon Lake Park is going to be closed for at least part of the year, from January to June, but we will be able to utilize the park for the JAKES event. We will not have the support from park staff that we have had in the past, and we will need to be certain if utilities, etc. will be available. At this time, we do not have a confirmed contact person for the park. Chastity announced that our JAKES event has won a national award for the third consecutive year.
Publicity: An announcement for our banquet has been submitted to the New Age Examiner and The Times Leader. The announcement has already appeared in The Times Leader.
Banquet: Joann provided an update on ticket returns. Some of the banquet merchandise has been received. Ray Smith will be at our next banquet meeting January 26. Dale reminded members to distribute banquet posters. Dean Nolton will be available to help with the banquet committee.
President: We received our 70% Golden Gobbler award at the PA Rendezvous awards banquet. Dale noted that we have applied for Superfund money for the June Beth Run project. We as a chapter did not place any orders this year through the Conservation Seed Program. An Appleseed Program order will be placed for 50 apple trees. We have had chain saws, pole saws, chaps, helmets, and other equipment donated to use by Luzerne County .
