RED ROCK CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 19, 2007
Meeting was called to order at 7:10pm
Vice President: Berny gave a reminder of the need to assign responsibilities for the JAKES event. Chapter members will likely have similar responsibilities as last year.
Treasurer: Beginning balance: $6022.58. Ending: 32,897.02. 50/50: $536.00 (of which $285.00 is to go into general fund for Rodano’s).
JAKES: Christine summarized what was discussed at the January 16, 2007 JAKES meeting. Personalized pencils will likely be obtained for the goodie bags. A donation box was agreed to be a good idea by chapter members. The next JAKES meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm on March 13, 2007, at the Farmer’s Inn.
Habitat: Habitat Coordinator Dave Butler was absent. However, Shawn Rybka discussed the DCNR needing a cut, approximately 2 acres, in Lackawanna State Forest near Moon Lake. The date of February 24, 2007, was rescheduled to March 31, 2007. Plans are to meet at the entrance to Moon Lake Park on that date at 8:00am.
President: Congratulations were offered by Dale for a successful banquet. Thank you letters will go out to the banquet donors this week. We are awaiting a final report for the banquet. For the state annual JAKES raffle, we received 50 names of JAKES members. Shawn mentioned the Environ-thon and possibly correlating it with JAKES activities. Bob Erikson contacted Dale regarding 200 available Red Oak trees. We will accept them, with use and distribution to be determined. As part of the Operation Appleseed Program, we will be receiving 50 apple trees around the first week of April. Ray Smith once again encouraged our members to attend the Lower Lackawanna NWTF banquet February 24, 2007. $6100 was funded for a joint project with the Red Rock Chapter and Muncy Creek Chapter for a planting June 9-10. Suburban News had an article about our banquet and JAKES event. There have been 2 applications thus far for our scholarship program. Dale requested volunteers to review and score the applications. Our JAKES event will include .22 Cricket rifles instead of BB guns. Acquisition of the rifles is confirmed. Chastity will be attending the National banquet in Nashville. The chapter considered reimbursing Chastity for the banquet tickets and a percentage of her expenses. The chapter voted at this time to pay for her banquet tickets. Dale suggested the need for a plan for a set amount to be contributed toward expenses at any future national award events. Dale asked for volunteers for the DART system at the upcoming PA Outdoor Expo. Shawn presented costs and information from the Waterfront as a possible location for our banquet next year, with prices ranging from $20-25/person, depending upon bar arrangements.
