RED ROCK CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES
AUGUST 20, 2007
Meeting was called to order at 7:15pm
Vice President: Berny and Dale attended the State Chapter workshop in State College August 4-5. They were able to view the items in this upcoming year’s banquet package. Berny noted there are a lot of new items for the auction, but there is no JAKES Gun of the Year. Berny noted the commissioners meeting is August 21, regarding the change of use of orange from mandatory to voluntary for spring turkey season. If approved, this change may take place as soon as this coming spring season. Berny has JAKES gun raffle tickets available for $20.
Treasurer: Beginning balance: $4237.54. Ending balance: $4246.14. 50/50: $417.00.
Habitat: The mowing project is set for South Mountain/Sorber Mountain/Cider Run September 8, meeting at Dale’s house at 8am. We will have a new land manager beginning January 1, 2008, Bill Williams from Sullivan County.
President: The 168 JAKES memberships have been taken care of. There are 7 WITO names that need to be sent in from the banquet. Regarding gun laws, Virginia has entered a reciprocity agreement with Pennsylvania for carrying handguns. The Mehoopany Creek NWTF banquet is August 24, 2007. The Game Commission is looking into 50 deer deaths in SW Pennsylvania. They are gathering information and waiting for test results. We had applied for a grant from Luzerne County Conservation. The grant, which was received, will be used for a building for youth education on Smith Pond Road. Volunteers will be needed to start the building, beginning September 15 at 8am. Shawn Rybka encouraged attendance at the Luzerne County Conservation District meetings, which take place the second Thursday of the month at 7pm, at the district building on Smith Pond Road. We will be doing the turkey giveaway this year. Tony Landi suggested we contact recipients now and get prices now so we can have a date set. Shawn Rybka will head this project once again. Our November meeting will be November 12. The distribution of the turkeys will likely be done at that time. Dave Zabofski read a letter from Ray Smith regarding an invitation to a New Brunswick bear hunt in June 2008. Dale noted the turkey harvest management data is now available from the Game Commission.
Banquet: As per Dave Zabofski, the banquet tickets have been ordered, with a requested delivery date of August 27. The Bow Clinic in Dupont will be the gun provider. Tony presented a letter from Genetti’s confirming our banquet date and the meal price of $22.50 per person. He also noted that Plains Paper has ticket rolls at $5 per 2000-ticket roll. Tony also suggested getting the banquet core package on line for the public to view. Dave Zabofski will contact Ray Smith to attend the September or October chapter meeting for banquet planning.
